EU - China Year of Intercultural Dialogue
The year 2012 was declared as EU-China Year of Intercultural Dialogue. It is forseen as an opportunity not only to promote cultural exchanges but also all forms of people-to-people contacts and mobility. The Year is expected to contribute to mutual understanding as well as to policymaking in the fields it covers, i.e. culture, education, research, exchanges between intellectuals, multilingualism and youth. It will be an occasion for celebrating intercultural relations, but also an opportunity to promote policy and civil society dialogue, thus triggering long-term benefits for EU/China relations. The Year will cover not only those policy issues which have a direct impact on cultural sectors, but also those which can contribute more broadly to building an environment conducive to exchanges and mutual understanding. The Year is expected to contribute to civil society dialogue between the EU and China through a pooling of efforts and identification of synergies with existing and planned projects.
